The light on the lush forest floor struck my eyes with its soft color and intense depth. It seemed the perfect ground to rest upon. The Mendocino forest is an ancient place. The giant redwoods—the “tallest living things on Earth”—force the eye to gaze up, up, up into the heavens. And yet I feel a strong connection to the Earth among those trees.
